Alameda County Mails 447,000 Secured Property Tax Bills Totaling $6.4 Billion Ahead of December 10 Deadline
Treasurer and Tax Collector Henry C. Levy launches online payment and senior postponement advisories for Oakland, Berkeley, Fremont, and Tri-Valley homeowners.

Homeowners and commercial property owners across Oakland, Berkeley, Hayward, Fremont, and the Tri-Valley are receiving their 2026–2027 annual tax statements this week after Alameda County Treasurer and Tax Collector Henry C. Levy completed mailing more than 447,000 secured roll property tax bills totaling approximately $6.4 billion. Issued from the county administration complex at 1221 Oak Street near Lake Merritt in Oakland, the annual assessment roll funds public K–12 school districts, community colleges, municipal emergency services, regional parks, and county healthcare programs across all fourteen Alameda County cities.
Under California revenue and taxation law, the first installment of the 2026–2027 secured property tax bill becomes due on Sunday, November 1, 2026, and must be paid or USPS-postmarked no later than 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2026, to avoid a mandatory 10 percent state statutory penalty. The second installment is due on February 1, 2027, and becomes delinquent after April 12, 2027. Levy's office reminded property owners whose mortgages do not include an impound escrow account that failing to receive a paper bill in the mail does not excuse late payment penalties.
To reduce courthouse lobby wait times in downtown Oakland, the Treasurer and Tax Collector's Office has expanded its fee-free electronic check (eCheck) online payment portal, automated 24-hour telephone payment line, and mobile lookup tool where owners can view itemized parcel assessments by street address or Assessor's Parcel Number (APN). County tax specialists also highlighted the California State Controller's Property Tax Postponement Program, which accepts applications starting in October from qualifying senior citizens, blind residents, and residents with disabilities to defer payment on their primary residence.
Alameda County property owners can view or download duplicate tax bills, verify parcel special assessments, and submit online eCheck payments directly at propertytax.acgov.org or in person at 1221 Oak Street, Room 131, in Oakland.
