Antioch opens five meetings on what City Park should become

Antioch is asking residents what should happen to Antioch City Park, and the city has set out five chances to answer. The first is at 1 p.m. today, Sunday, Sept. 20, at the park, at W. 10th and A streets.

Each session is the same meeting, run again. Pick whichever date works. From the notice the city posted Sept. 13:

• Sunday, Sept. 20, 1 to 2:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, Sept. 23, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 3, 5:30 to 7 p.m.
• Sunday, Oct. 4, 1 to 2:30 p.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 10, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

All ages are welcome, and light refreshments are served.

The meetings are run as interactive sessions rather than a podium and a sign-up card. The questions on the table are the ones people usually raise about a park and rarely get asked directly: what to build for recreation, what would make the park feel safe, what the landscaping should be, and whether there should be public art.

There is a deadline behind the asking. The city says the feedback will guide its application for a California State Parks grant, so the ideas raised at these five meetings are the ones that go into the ask. The City Council settled on City Park as the site for that application at its Aug. 11 meeting.

The city's Recreation Department is running the sessions.
