Pleasanton is preparing to welcome thousands of regional visitors on Saturday, October 17, for the annual Dussehra Diwali Dhamaka celebration at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. Promoted as the Bay Area's largest Diwali mela, the daylong festival will run from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM, bringing an expansive celebration of South Asian culture, cuisine, and live entertainment to the Tri-Valley. The showcase will culminate in a dramatic 40-foot Ravan Dahan effigy burning ceremony alongside a coordinated evening fireworks spectacle.

The massive festival provides a vibrant cultural gathering for the region's rapidly growing Indian American community while inviting East Bay families of all backgrounds to partake in traditional autumn festivities. Local restaurateurs, textile artisans, and boutique owners will fill more than 150 dedicated vendor booths, boosting commercial activity across Pleasanton. Families with children will have access to all-day carnival midway rides, live Bollywood dance showcases, and interactive arts workshops celebrating the triumph of light over darkness.

Diwali festivities have expanded dramatically across Alameda County over the past decade, reflecting significant demographic shifts and strong institutional support from local civic leaders. Municipal cultural initiatives and county fairground partnerships have fostered major regional events that attract patrons from San Francisco, San Jose, and the broader Silicon Valley corridor. The fairgrounds event coincides with broader civic recognition, as municipal libraries and community recreation centers throughout the East Bay host complementary cultural programming throughout the month.

General admission to the fairgrounds mela is priced at $12 per person, with free entry granted to children aged five and younger. Attendees seeking to join the high-energy evening Dandiya dance floor can purchase separate admission passes for $15. Beyond the fairgrounds celebration, the City of Pleasanton is hosting a free cultural gathering at the Pleasanton Senior Center from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM featuring live music and storytelling, while the Dublin Library will host its free Festival of Lights on Tuesday, October 27, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Organizers advise attendees to arrive early at the fairground gates along Pleasanton Avenue to avoid peak traffic congestion and secure parking near the main pavilions. The city traffic division will deploy parking personnel and directional signage along Bernal Avenue to facilitate smooth arrivals throughout the afternoon. Residents can find complete entertainment schedules, dance performance rosters, and online ticket portals by visiting the Alameda County Fairgrounds event directory or calling venue guest services at (925) 426-7600.
