Cal Men’s Golf Team Heads to Seaside for Saint Mary’s Invitational Following First Season Victory
Golden Bears face nationally ranked Santa Clara and defending champion Arkansas State across 54 holes from October 19–21.

Riding the momentum of its first tournament championship of the 2026-27 collegiate season last week, the University of California men's golf team travels from Berkeley to the Monterey Peninsula to compete in the annual Saint Mary's Invitational from Monday, October 19, through Wednesday, October 21. Hosted by Moraga-based Saint Mary's College of California, the three-day collegiate showcase takes place on the challenging coastal fairways of the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Course in Seaside. The autumn event brings together a competitive field of eighteen varsity programs and fourteen individual collegiate qualifiers.
Tournament competition consists of three consecutive daily rounds of 18 holes across the par-72 layout, totaling 54 holes of stroke play. Under standard collegiate scoring rules, each participating university fields a five-player starting lineup, with the four lowest individual 18-hole scores counting toward the collective team total each day. Cal's starting five spent the past week refining short-game execution and wind-shot trajectory control at their East Bay practice facilities in preparation for the coastal marine conditions.
Among the top contenders challenging the Golden Bears in the eighteen-team bracket are West Coast rivals Santa Clara and defending tournament champion Arkansas State. Santa Clara enters the Seaside event ranked No. 22 nationally after capturing the team title at the recent Bombs Darts Birds Collegiate tournament. Arkansas State arrives ranked No. 29 in the national coaches poll and returns to Northern California aiming to defend the Saint Mary's Invitational crown it won last autumn.
Cal head coach Michael Wilson emphasized a steady, disciplined mindset for his roster despite the excitement of last week's victory, noting that whether a team is coming off a tournament win or a tough defeat, players must immediately return to the daily process of preparing for the next course. Athletic department officials in Berkeley and Moraga noted that the annual invitational showcases premier West Coast collegiate golf talent before regional spectators.
Golf fans, alumni, and East Bay sports followers can track live hole-by-hole leaderboard updates, daily tee times, and complete team pairings for the October 19–21 tournament through the university athletics portal at calbears.com or by contacting the Berkeley athletic communications office at (800) 462-3277. Admission for spectators walking the course in Seaside is open throughout all three rounds.
