Parks and recreation directors with the City of Fremont Community Services Department inaugurated an accessible floating boathouse dock, twelve solar-charged electric-assist swan and canopy pedal boats, and a 2,200-foot illuminated shoreline promenade on Sunday afternoon along Lake Elizabeth at Fremont Central Park at 40000 Paseo Padre Parkway in Fremont. Framed by the dramatic 2,517-foot ridgeline of Mission Peak, the 450-acre park and its 83-acre freshwater lake welcome more than 1.5 million annual East Bay visitors for lakeside walking, dragon-boat paddling, and family picnics.

At the Lake Elizabeth Boathouse cove, marine contractors replaced the 1988 wooden boarding floats with a 90-foot slip-resistant aluminum-and-composite floating pier connected to the shoreline plaza via a 60-foot ADA-compliant gangway. Two wide level-entry boarding slips equipped with stabilizing hand-grab arches and a slide-transfer bench allow wheelchair users and seniors to step or transfer safely into twelve new four-passenger pedal boats fitted with rooftop solar panels and whisper-quiet 500-watt electric hub-motor assist.

Extending south from the boathouse toward the Performance Pavilion, crews widened the lakeside walking path to twelve feet of permeable concrete separated from the adjacent bicycle lane by a granite cobble rumble strip. Electricians also installed forty-four dark-sky 3,000-Kelvin LED pedestrian light standards and four chilled hydration fountains along the shaded shoreline promenade.

The $540,000 Lake Elizabeth boathouse and promenade project was approved by the Fremont City Council using Park Dedication Impact fees and an Alameda County Measure WW regional park grant. Families can check weekend boat rental hours on the City of Fremont Central Park Portal.
