FREMONT, UNION CITY & SAN LEANDRO, Calif. — Municipal agencies and community organizations across southern Alameda County announced major housing and transportation milestones this week, highlighted by 918 new affordable apartments advancing in Fremont, a multi-year Union City street and BART improvement schedule, Music with a Mission's 2026–27 season opener, and the CIF North Coast Section (NCS) women's flag football playoffs.

Fremont Fast-Tracks 918 Affordable Apartments Across Six Developments for 2027–2028

As reported by Tri-City Voice, the City of Fremont has 918 affordable apartments under construction across 6 separate developments in Centerville, Irvington, Warm Springs, and Downtown Fremont, all scheduled to open between fall 2027 and spring 2028 following 560 affordable units that opened across the city in 2025.

Fremont Housing Manager Lucia Hughes noted that the city's streamlined 35-day maximum permit review limit helped developers secure competitive state housing tax credits and bonds. The 918 apartments are reserved for households earning between 20% and 80% of the Alameda County Area Median Income (AMI)—up to $95,050 per year for a single person or $135,750 for a family of 4—and interest lists open 6 to 12 months prior to each building's completion.
