Hayward gives households four bags of free compost on Oct. 24
The fall giveaway runs 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the former Skywest Golf Course lot, 1401 Golf Course Road. A signed waiver is required.
Hayward households can pick up four bags of free compost on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the parking lot of the former Skywest Golf Course, 1401 Golf Course Road.
The city's fall compost giveaway hands out WM EarthCare Homegrown Compost, made in part from the food scraps and yard trimmings collected at Hayward curbs. The giveaway comes out of the city's franchise agreement with Waste Management of Alameda County.
Supply is limited, and the city said compost will be given out only while it lasts.
A signed waiver is required. Waivers are mailed to every Hayward household and note which giveaway date a resident should attend; a waiver can also be downloaded ahead of time or filled out on site.
Traffic at the golf course lot is usually heavy. The city asks drivers to come in from the south, using Skywest Drive and West A Street, and suggests carpooling with neighbors.
