Juvenile Great White Shark Circles Kayak off Pillar Point
David Slavich was fishing for rockfish and lingcod in calm waters roughly one mile off Pillar Point on Sunday when he spotted a juvenile great white shark—estimated at 6 to 7 feet long—gliding alongside and underneath his kayak.
Slavich dipped his camera into the water and filmed the curious shark as it circled for about a minute before swimming away without bumping the boat.
SFDanceworks Season 9 at Z Space and A24’s You Can See Everything
In San Francisco’s Mission District, contemporary repertory company SFDanceworks opens its ninth season from Wednesday, Nov. 4, through Saturday, Nov. 7, at Z Space (450 Florida St.). Under Artistic Director Yin Yue, the program features a world premiere by Yue, a company premiere by choreographer Penny Saunders, and works by Alejandro Cerrudo and Roderick George.
On the Peninsula, A24’s new documentary You Can See Everything examines the rise and fall of former Palo Alto biotech executive Elizabeth Holmes, who was convicted of investor fraud in 2022 and is serving an 11-year federal prison sentence in Bryan, Texas. The film weaves childhood and Stanford-era archival footage with contemporary reflections from Holmes and her partner, Billy Evans.
Toyota Recalls Over 228,000 Sienna Hybrid Minivans
Meanwhile, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced Tuesday that Toyota is recalling more than 228,000 model-year 2021 through 2025 Sienna Hybrid minivans in the United States because second-row seat rails may have been improperly welded and could lose structural strength in a collision. Dealers will inspect and replace the second-row seat rail assemblies free of charge.
