Oakland's East Bay Greenway north segment goes out to bid

The Alameda County Transportation Commission is looking for a contractor to build the Oakland north segment of the East Bay Greenway, the stretch running from Lake Merritt to Fruitvale. The agency posted the solicitation on July 9.

For people who live along the corridor, the scope is the useful part, because it describes what the street will look like when crews are done. The contract covers roadway paving, concrete curb ramps, driveways, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and new or modified traffic signals and pedestrian warning beacons.

It also covers roadway and pedestrian lighting, pavement striping and signage, drainage changes, utility relocations, adjustments to utility covers and other fittings in the roadbed, landscaping and green infrastructure.

The solicitation is numbered I27-0004 and is listed as the East Bay Greenway Multimodal Project: Oakland North Segment.

Two dates matter for anyone bidding. Alameda CTC holds an in-person pre-bid meeting Wednesday, July 15, at 2 p.m. at its offices at 1111 Broadway, Suite 800, in Oakland. The bid opening is Thursday, Aug. 20, at 11:30 a.m., held over Zoom, with registration required.

Bids go through Bid Express, and contractors that have not registered with the system need to do so before the solicitation closes. Solicitation documents are posted on the Alameda CTC contracting opportunities page.

The agency has not published a construction cost estimate, a bid deadline or a completion date for the segment. Those would ordinarily follow once bids are opened and a contract is awarded.
