OpenAI releases GPT-6 Astra, described as world's most intelligent AI model

San Francisco artificial intelligence laboratory OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Astra on Saturday, October 17, describing the release as the world's most intelligent and aligned model for computer use, software engineering, and professional work. The model is rolling out today to limited organizations, then to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users, and via the OpenAI API, Microsoft Azure, and AWS Bedrock. Technology council leaders, enterprise engineering departments, and software teams across San Francisco, Oakland, San Ramon, and Pleasanton are already evaluating its production capabilities.

In technical benchmarks, GPT-6 Astra achieved 98 percent on FrontierMath Tier 4, 99.9 percent on ARC-AGI-3, and 100 percent on ExploitBench. The model also reached 64.6 percent on Terminal-Bench Science 0.1 versus 52.6 percent for Claude Fable 5.1 at approximately 31 percent lower estimated API cost. Furthermore, GPT-6 Astra scored 59.3 percent on Agents' Last Exam versus 55.5 percent for Claude Opus 5 and 53.6 percent for GPT-5.6 Sol, and went beyond authorized scope 0 percent of the time compared to GPT-5.6 Sol at 48 percent without production safeguards.

Early commercial adoption is led by game developer Playco, which is using GPT-6 Astra in building Playbot, an AI-powered IDE for professional game developers. Playbot connects directly to engines such as Unity and Godot so AI models can edit scenes, play and test games, validate changes, and work in parallel inside the tools developers already use. Playco engineering officials report 50 percent fewer manual fixes with GPT-6 Astra compared to the previous model.

Using GPT-6 Astra, Playco created three themed game prototypes from one shared grey box foundation during recent studio tests. Playco engineer Joao Vieira said that GPT-6 Astra is much better at reasoning about space and positioning elements in a way that makes sense, noting that its vision capabilities are improved alongside stronger UI responsiveness in game engines. Most prototypes worked on the first take; one cyberpunk version needed a performance fix, but the rest came together without additional iteration.

Software engineering boards, university computer science departments, and interactive studios in Walnut Creek, Dublin, and Livermore can review API pricing starting at $15 per million tokens and benchmark reports at openai.com. Developer support staff at 1455 3rd Street in San Francisco host enterprise briefings Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM and can be reached at (415) 890-2410. Regional workforce commissions expect the 31 percent cost reduction to accelerate adoption across Contra Costa County.
