The University of California, Berkeley has opened a professional on-campus broadcast studio designed to help Golden Bears student-athletes produce live digital content for a dedicated Twitch channel. Built by StreamU—run by TheLinkU in partnership with San Francisco-based Twitch and UnlimitedIRL—the facility marks StreamU's first on-campus content studio nationwide, as reported by Net Influencer. Every campus athletics official noted that roughly 10 hours of weekly programming are already scheduled for Cal's StreamU Twitch channel.

Engineered to match commercial production hubs, the Berkeley studio features Canon and Sony cameras, professional lighting and audio equipment, a Blackmagic Design video switcher, a portable Sony FX3 camera, and a LiveU mobile encoder. Student-athletes can also use gaming stations and portable field kits to stream behind-the-scenes campus workouts and community appearances. Following the Berkeley opening, StreamU announced in a GlobeNewswire release that it plans to expand its studio footprint to Texas A&M University, the University of Arkansas, Baylor University, and the University of Houston in the coming weeks.

Cal football general manager Ron Rivera underscored the value of the facility, telling Net Influencer that "Providing student-athletes resources and infrastructure to tell their stories and enhance NIL potential is a significant priority for the football program and athletic department." Alumni supporters and families across Berkeley, Oakland, Walnut Creek, and the Lamorinda cities of Orinda, Lafayette, and Moraga have increasingly tuned into athlete-led broadcasts. Local sports marketers observed that creator sponsorships help varsity athletes build commercial partnerships without disrupting academic schedules.

The studio launch arrives at a critical financial moment for the university's athletic department as campus leaders address conference travel expenses and revenue-sharing rules. Financial reports reviewed by the UC Board of Regents budget committee show Cal Athletics posted $165 million in operating expenses against $153 million in revenue during the 2024–2025 fiscal year, producing a $24 million operating deficit. City council and campus commission advisors noted that external media partnerships expand student-athlete funding opportunities without drawing on public district resources.

Supporters, students, and Contra Costa County alumni can watch weekly athlete streams via links at calbears.com and twitch.tv, or contact the athletics department at 2227 Piedmont Avenue in Berkeley at (800) 462-3277. Student-athletes interested in reserving studio blocks can register through the campus athlete development program office starting Monday at 9:00 AM. Additional live broadcasts featuring winter basketball and gymnastics teams will debut in November.
