City of Concord Mobilizes Volunteers for October 24 Skate Park Cleanup as East Bay Cities Advance Civic Projects
Concord Parks and Recreation leads a Saturday morning trail restoration at 1174 Sanuford Street while Alameda considers a $1.8 million aerospace lease and East Bay 911 secures $1 million.

The City of Concord Parks and Recreation Department is mobilizing neighborhood volunteers, youth service clubs, and local families for the Love Concord Volunteer Kickoff on Saturday, October 24, at the Concord Skate Park. Coordinated from municipal offices at 1950 Parkside Drive, the autumn community stewardship project focuses on removing litter, invasive weeds, and storm debris from the open field and multi-use recreational trail behind 1174 Sanuford Street. Every municipal parks official and city council member encouraged residents from Concord, Pleasant Hill, and Walnut Creek to participate in the morning restoration effort.
On Saturday, October 24, volunteer check-in opens at 8:00 AM near the skate park entrance, followed by a mandatory site safety briefing and active trail cleanup starting promptly at 8:30 AM. City of Concord Public Works Department crews will supply protective work gloves, heavy-duty trash bags, high-visibility safety vests, and mechanical litter-picking tools for all registered participants. Parks commission coordinators noted that clearing the Sanuford Street open space ahead of November rainfall prevents plastics and loose vegetation from washing into Contra Costa County flood control channels and Mount Diablo Creek.
Elsewhere on the East Bay municipal governance calendar this week, the Alameda City Council at 2263 Santa Clara Avenue is scheduled to vote Tuesday, October 20, on a major industrial lease at the former Naval Air Station at Alameda Point. Under the proposed agreement, autonomous cargo drone manufacturer Poseidon Aerospace would lease historic Building 11 for an initial seven-year term at $1.8 million in annual base rent, accompanied by two five-year renewal options. Economic development board analysts in Alameda and Oakland noted that transforming former military hangars into clean-aviation manufacturing hubs generates substantial municipal lease revenue and engineering jobs.
Strengthening regional emergency infrastructure, State Senator Jesse Arreguín announced $1 million in approved California state budget funding dedicated to modernizing East Bay 911 emergency dispatch operations. The $1 million state grant program will upgrade computerized dispatch consoles, next-generation call-management software, and emergency dispatcher training facilities serving Oakland, Berkeley, and neighboring Alameda and Contra Costa county jurisdictions. Public safety committee leaders emphasized that modernizing 911 telecommunications equipment directly reduces emergency medical and fire response times across urban and suburban corridors.
Residents wishing to sign up for the October 24 trail cleanup at 1174 Sanuford Street can register online at cityofconcord.org or contact the Concord Parks and Recreation Department at (925) 671-3404. Public agenda packets for Tuesday's Alameda City Council meeting are available at alamedaca.gov. Additional Love Concord neighborhood beautification projects will be announced by the city's community service coordinator later this fall.
