Downtown Hayward is finalizing preparations for the Second Annual Taste of Hayward culinary and arts festival, scheduled for this Thursday, October 22, along pedestrian-friendly B Street. Organized by the City of Hayward and the Downtown Hayward Improvement Association, the evening street festival unites more than 35 family-owned restaurants, regional craft breweries, and local visual artists in a lively celebration of the East Bay's rich multicultural culinary heritage.

Festival attendees will sample signature dishes representing Afghan, Mexican, Filipino, Salvadoran, and Southern barbecue traditions, reflecting Hayward's status as one of the most culturally diverse municipalities in Northern California. B Street will be closed to vehicle traffic between Watkins Street and Foothill Boulevard starting Thursday at 2:00 PM to accommodate outdoor tasting pavilions, live acoustic stages, and interactive family art stations staffed by the Hayward Arts Council.

Hayward City Council members and local business leaders noted that last year's inaugural festival generated a 45 percent increase in retail foot traffic, introducing thousands of regional visitors from Castro Valley, San Leandro, Fremont, and Oakland to renovated downtown commercial storefronts. Revenue from festival tasting passport sales directly supports downtown beautification grants, historic facade restorations, and public safety lighting along side streets.

Community members can purchase tasting passports, review restaurant menus, and locate free parking garage locations online at hayward-ca.gov or downtownhayward.com. Inquiries regarding vendor applications and volunteer opportunities may be directed to the Hayward Community Services Department Monday through Friday at (510) 583-4000. Organizers encourage attendees to take advantage of the Hayward BART station, located just two blocks from festival gates.
