Pinole Creek Trail closes as erosion repairs begin near I-80

Contra Costa County Public Works crews begin repairing erosion along Pinole Creek on Monday, Aug. 31. The work is scheduled to run through Friday, Oct. 23.

The stretch being repaired sits between Henry Avenue and Interstate 80. The county said in a notice posted Aug. 26 that the job is meant to repair and strengthen a bank damaged by past winter storm events.

For anyone who walks or rides the Pinole Creek Trail, that is the part to plan around. The trail will be closed to users near the construction area, from Henry Avenue to I-80.

Crews will work between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays and weather permitting. Traffic control will be in place at Henry Avenue and along the trail beside the work zone. The county expects the effect on drivers to be minimal.

Funding for the repair comes from Flood Control Funds. The county has not announced a project cost.

Contra Costa County Public Works maintains 79 miles of streams and channels, along with more than 650 miles of county roads, and handles flood control and storm water management.

The county described the dates as subject to unforeseen circumstances, and has not published a separate reopening date for the trail apart from the end of the work window.
