Fifteen-year-old rising vocalist Koumba Diallo, a standout contestant on the current national television season of The Voice, will headline the opening ceremonies at Alameda's Donut Fun Run and Festival on Saturday, October 17. Before runners take off on the timed 5K course, Diallo will perform the national anthem alongside a live rendition of the Demi Lovato ballad "Stone Cold." Now in its fourth annual year and sponsored by local bakery Donut Petit, the community race and post-run festival raise vital operating funds for Girls Inc. of the Island City.

Diallo captured national attention during her blind audition on The Voice when all four celebrity coaches turned their chairs in recognition of her powerhouse vocal range, prompting the teenager to join Kelly Clarkson's team. Since joining Team Kelly, Diallo has won her first televised battle round, earning praise from music industry officials and Bay Area youth arts advocates alike. Reflecting on her rapid ascent and Saturday's hometown appearance, Diallo stated that her goal is to inspire people and show them that regardless of what you look like or what you sound like, as long as you are passionate and have that drive and want, you can do anything.

Proceeds from Saturday's timed 5K registration fees, sponsor grants, and festival booths directly support Girls Inc. of the Island City, an established local affiliate of the national youth empowerment nonprofit organization. Based on Santa Clara Avenue in Alameda, the organization delivers after-school STEM education, literacy coaching, athletic programs, and leadership mentorship for girls across Alameda County. Pairing a nationally televised teen role model like Diallo with the annual fundraiser underscores the nonprofit board's mission to build confidence and resilience among young women.

Runners, walkers, and families traveling from across Alameda, Oakland, Berkeley, and Lamorinda will enjoy fresh specialty pastries from title sponsor Donut Petit at the finish line festival. Municipal recreation officials and volunteer race marshals have coordinated safe street crossings and water stations along the scenic flat course so competitive runners and stroller-pushing parents alike can participate safely. Community business sponsors and youth volunteers will also host interactive family booths during the post-race celebration.

Residents interested in registering for the Saturday, October 17 timed 5K Donut Fun Run, cheering at the opening ceremony concert, or contributing directly to youth mentorship programs can visit girlsincislandcity.org. Additional information regarding volunteer shifts and corporate sponsorship grants is available by contacting the Girls Inc. of the Island City administrative office on Santa Clara Avenue at (510) 521-1743.
