The Pittsburg Planning Commission will take public comment on Tuesday, Sept. 22, on a use permit that would let an auto body business open in an industrial-park warehouse off Garcia Avenue. The hearing starts at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chamber at City Hall.

The application, filed by Diamond Auto Body as AP-26-0086, covers Suite E at 660 Garcia Ave. That is 2,200 square feet inside an existing 9,440-square-foot commercial warehouse. The parcel, assessor's number 088-392-008, sits in the city's IP, or Industrial Park, district.

What the business proposes to do there, per the notice: vehicle restoration, including body and fender work, painting and detailing, plus minor repairs to radiators, air-conditioning condensers and lighting systems. The applicant also proposes welding on site, as part of the radiator repair work.

The city has determined the project is categorically exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act under a Class 1 exemption, Section 15301 — the category that covers permitting and operating facilities that already exist.

Painting, welding and shop hours are the details neighboring tenants and nearby residents usually ask about, and Sept. 22 is the meeting where the commission takes those questions on the record.

The project planner is Ariana Ruiz, at (925) 252-4029 or aruiz@pittsburgca.gov.
